Learn about Exciting Changes in Store for ITUG and HP in 2007

The ITUG Summit 2006 closing session showcased the 2007 goals of the organization’s incoming chairman, Scott Healy. Healy identified ITUG’s desire to build on its active membership; drive value through ITUG’s core offerings such as The Connection, RUGs, SIGs, and Advocacy; continue to focus on ITUG’s core competency in NonStop Solutions and Infrastructure; and to develop competencies in the expanded areas of Business Intelligence, Heterogeneous Environments, and Business Continuity. Inherent in these goals is also the need to maintain a strong, growing and relevant relationship with HP. Discussed below are two exciting changes for both ITUG and HP.

ITUG Summit at HP Technology Forum (HPTF) in 2007
One way ITUG plans to execute on its goals is to co-locate the ITUG Summit with the 2007 HP Technology Forum (HPTF) 18-21 June in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ITUG board believes that co-locating will increase the exposure of ITUG and NonStop to the larger HP community, while allowing the organization to leverage the advantages of a larger event to benefit ITUG and its members. ITUG Summit co-locating at HPTF should strengthen the position of the Summit as the premier event for user training and technical information for the NonStop community.

Co-locating in 2007 will be an optimal opportunity for ITUG to provide influence in the direction of this premier North American HP event, while maintaining its tenets of independence and being a user-run organization. ITUG members should expect this event to strengthen the ITUG community while enabling cross-over. Martin Fink, the new chief of the HP Business Critical Systems Division (see below), fully supports both this co-location effort and ITUG’s continued autonomy and service to HP customers and partners.

The ITUG board believes this new conference format will be a great success, and we hope you’ll join us at ITUG Summit 2007 at the HPTF 18-21 June in Las Vegas, Nevada.

HP’s NonStop Enterprise Division to combine with Business Critical Servers
Message from Martin Fink, HP Business Critical Systems (BCS) SVP/GM, BCS:

On November 1, 2006, HP combined its high-end server businesses—the NonStop Enterprise Division (NED) and Business Critical Servers (BCS)—along with the Open Source and Linux Organization (OSLO) into a single, cohesive organization. This new group is called Business Critical Systems (BCS), and I am honored that HP has asked me to lead it. This change will help HP gain better alignment among our business units and prepare us for expanded leadership in our most mission-critical server solutions.

With this integration, I want to clearly underscore my ongoing commitment to NonStop and its independent users group, ITUG.

For HP and NonStop customers, this organizational integration affords new opportunities for HP to provide compelling products by cross-leveraging technology inside the structure of the new BCS.

As you are probably aware, ITUG has also been making strong moves to expand its value to its community. Proof points include the co-location of their ITUG Summit at the HP Tech Forum in June 2007 to give the traditional NonStop customers greater access to information on broader HP technologies, while maintaining the commitment to the same level of user training and technical information for the NonStop community. Additionally, ITUG has expanded their technology focus: including independent content in both Business Intelligence and multi-tier hybrid technology environments. We applaud these efforts. In many ways, ITUG’s changes and advancements mirror the expanded customer value we expect to deliver in the new BCS.

Encompass is another important user group focused on HP technology. Both ITUG and Encompass are independent entities from HP and are important to building a real sense of community among HP users. We look forward to working with both organizations in the future as they each pursue their separate but similar objectives.

I encourage all users of NonStop products as well as those with interest in Business Intelligence and multi-tier hybrid systems, to consider exploring the value that is delivered by ITUG.

Regards,

Martin Fink
