HC-04-U: Implementation of the Electronic Health Card in Germany

From 2006, the electronic health card will gradually replace the current health insurance card in Germany. The electronic health card with the eHealth Telematics Infrastructure is an important and necessary step on the way towards the modernisation of the healthcare system in Germany. It ensures that health data are made available where they are needed, in the interest of improved treatment for patients.The Knappschaft and T-Systems started their first field test in Germany with electronic patient files and electronic prescriptions in the run-up to the implementation of the electronic health card. One of the goals of the pilot project is to assess the acceptance of electronic health cards and health professionals cards (HPCs) in the healthcare industry.
