Although much has been written on interpreting SQL/MX optimization plans, many developers still aren't clear on how to effectively manipulate them. One thing is certain: it's far different than SQL/MP. This first portion of this presentation discusses the pluses and minuses of various methods of query optimization. The second part describes a generic approach to performance tuning using the techniques of experts on well known platforms.

DA-6-HP *
Designing and Tuning Best Practices for SQL/MX
Joe DiNapoli, HP
Audience Level: Technical

Every database has its own special characteristics. To design and tune a database to meet application goals, you need to understand how to best use the strengths of that database. This talk is about the best practices with tips and considerations that will equip you to make the right choices when deploying SQL/MX in your environment.

DA-7-HP *
C++ Programming on the HP Integrity NonStop Server
Dave Cutler, HP
Audience Level: Advanced Technical

Last year we introduced an ANSI compliant C++ compiler and runtime library, known as the Version 3 C++ dialect. This session will begin with a short review of C++ version 3 and will introduce the architectural changes as pertain to the upcoming Itanium®-based NonStop server release.

DA-9-HP *
Compiler/Linker Considerations When Migrating Applications to HP Integrity NonStop Servers
Paul Del Vigna, HP
Audience Level: Technical

Migrating applications to Integrity NonStop Servers is easy and fast, usually requiring a only simple rebuild of your application. This session discusses the details of rebuilding of your application, including those situations where minor modifications to your source code or build scripts may be necessary.

Audience Level: Technical

This talk will cover the latest updates to IBM's WebSphere MQ Series (WMQ) for HP NonStop Server, describe some typical customer usage scenarios that demonstrate the power of WMQ as part of your business critical infrastructure, and focus on core messaging aspects, security features, system management techniques, plus highlights in tuning and configuration for performance and reliability of WMQ.

DA-11-HP
Application Development Overview
Swastik Bihani, HP
Audience Level: Overview

Interested in increasing your application developers productivity for NonStop servers? If so, this talk is for you. This session gives you a good understanding of the latest improvements in the application development environment by focusing on the tools, technologies and products available on Windows, Linux, and NonStop platforms to develop applications for NonStop Servers. This talk will also discuss the Open Source Eclipse project that is changing the landscape for integrated, multi-platform software application development. Find out what Eclipse can do you NonStop Development today!

DA-12-HP
Java Update for NonStop Servers
Sanjib Guhathakurta, HP
Audience Level: Overview

Java on NonStop continues to evolve at a rapid pace. This session will review the Java-based products that have been introduced since last ITUG as well as discuss products that are in the pipeline. This session will also discuss some popular Java-based open-source products that you can use in your projects today to develop enterprise Java applications. Use of these open-source products can generally lead to simpler, easier, faster and less risky Java development process while at the same time leveraging the best of Java infrastructure on NonStop.

DA-13-HP
Middleware Strategy
Keith Evans, HP
Audience Level: Overview

Hear about the latest versions, new features, and functions of application middleware available on the HP NonStop Server. DA-14-HP *
Effects of Data Clustering on Join Performance
Neal Coddington, HP
Audience Level: Advanced Technical

With the release of SQL/MX there are three important aspects of physical database design that can have a profound effect on query performance namely the partitioning, clustering and co-location of data By taking a detailed look at nested-joins, we will examine candidate cluster key selection possibilities and how that selection can affect performance.

DA-15-HP *
Application Virtualization: Moving an Application Beyond a Single Node
John Haverland, HP
Audience Level: Technical

This session will cover the issues that the NonStop Divivion’s Advanced Technology Center has encountered working with customers who have had to expand their applications beyond a single node. Among the issues covered are Metro/Continental Cluster performance, Expand considerations, Network TMF considerations, tuning, Pathway/XM, outage analysis and time synchronization.

DA-16-U
Beating Development Deadlines with Instant Application Mapping and Documenting
Jorge Knapp, Bank-Verlad and Michael Freeland, Emperex
Audience Level: Technical

Developers spend 40% of their time searching for "what" needs to be modified, before code is actually changed.  Development departments must continually be faster and use less resources. Staff assigned to modify an unfamiliar application must spend weeks or months to understand the application.

This presentation will outline how the speaker leveraged new ITP-PANORAMA technology to instantly map and document entire NonStop and multi-platform applications for sub-second searches, and how it affected the organization. Examples will be shown to demonstrate complex searches, finding the impact of change to any application element, (including database record structures, where modifying a field attribute can cause application failure if one does not know exactly what will be affected), and more.

DA-18 -U
An SOA-Based Transaction Vault for Financial Applications
Luis Munoz and Michael Johnson, Evertec
Audience Level: Technical

EVERTEC constructed a Transaction Vault with the objective of providing high availability, a single customer view, and real time processing.  This SOA solution provides a central repository of customer information which includes transactional information, common services for applications such as Internet and telephone banking, standard messaging and transport through XML and IIOP, interfaces to ACI's Base24 and to legacy applications on an IBM Mainframe.

This session will describe technical aspects of the overall architecture as well as an overview of our experience with the production environment.
