Real Time Path to Innovation

Richard Buckle, GoldenGate
Audience Level: Intermediate

While many of today’s industry analysts question the meaning of real time really, and imply that timeframes measurable in hours is quite reasonable, in today’s business environment the technology must be capable of supporting the smallest possible window. User requirements should not be limited by the technology on hand but rather, be in tune with what drives the market.

Innovation can no longer be viewed as something we hope for, and radical innovation will not materialize without our business being aware of operational information in real time. Yet without innovation we cannot differentiate our business’s products and continue to grow.

For today’s users of NonStop, there is constant business pressure to evaluate more modern solutions and to view the heritage of NonStop as legacy – but in reality, nothing new has appeared that can support today’s need for real time information delivery as well as NonStop. Plans to migrate away from the platform may be overlooking its major value proposition – its ability to support real time access to real time information.

This presentation will provide an independent perspective on the direction of NonStop, and its ideal deployment in business situations that call for the smallest possible windows. Its content will draw heavily from recent Connection columns and blog postings written by the presenter, and will include several likely future configuration scenarios.

SQL/MX: Avoiding Common Pitfalls

Scott Randall, Randall Consulting
Audience Level: Advanced

Feature-rich SQL/MX is the future for NonStop databases. As developers, DBAs, Architects, Analysts and Management make decisions that dictate the requirements of the database, knowing what decisions will lead to pitfalls and which ones won’t could be the difference between success and failure. This session will reveal a number of common pitfalls when using SQL/MX, and how to avoid them.

NonStop SQL Strategy & Direction

Prasad Shastry, HP
Audience Level: Introductory

This talk provides an overview of NonStop SQL including overall strategic direction, recent enhancements, and future improvements to the database. Topics include NonStop SQL/MX enhancements, ODBC, JDBC, and performance improvements. To aid planning and future deployment, a roadmap for future capabilities will be discussed.

SQL/MX - Frequently Asked Questions

Klara Franko, FSH Consulting International
Audience Level: Intermediate

This session will discuss technical details of SQL/MX based on questions raised by customers regarding the current features of the product and the future plans. The questions address, among others, Triggers, Referential Integrity, Porting to SQL/MX.
The answers will help you to better understand the fine details of SQL/MX to improve your application with the enhanced features of the product accessing your existing SQL/MP database or the native SQL/MX database.

Monitoring NonStop SQL Clusters

Jamie Pearson, Integrated Research Ltd
Audience Level: Advanced

There is an increasing trend towards using a cluster of NonStop servers to host large scaleable SQL/MX databases, often for offboard applications. These environments typically take advantage of the advanced partitioning and parallel execution capabilities of SQL/MX on NonStop servers. These clustered environments present various monitoring challenges that are not present for a single server solution. Issues like maintaining a consolidated view of table space and performance information across all servers. How well balanced is the load across all the CPUs and data disks across the environment ? Should your alerting capability be distributed or centralized ? How can you attribute utilization of shared resources back to the (possibly offboard) applications causing it ? This presentation by Jamie Pearson from Integrated Research, developers of specialist systems management software, will examine the issues involved in monitoring NonStop SQL cluster environments, and how these issues can be addressed by correlating data made available by Measure, SQL/MX, MXCS and other NonStop tools.

HP NonStop SQL/MX Metadata Made Easy

Frans Jongma, HP
Audience Level: Intermediate

GUI tools like NSM/web provide point-and-click access to the SQL/MX metadata. However, DBAs often have a need to use this data in scripts or in a command interface like mxci. This presentation discusses how to set up a set of views on the metadata and continues with tips how to make use of this data in management and performance analysis.

XML Storage & Retrieval on NonStop

Ernie Guerrera, NuWave Technologies, Inc.
Audience Level: Introductory

Today, organizations are dealing with growing numbers of XML-formatted documents that they generate internally or receive from their customers and suppliers. Typically, these documents must be retained in their original form for auditing purposes. With this ever-increasing accumulation of documents comes the problem of how to efficiently store and retrieve them. Moreover, for many organizations, they must not only keep the original document intact in XML format, but they must also provide the ability to access the document on-line to retrieve specific data within it.

XML Vault allows NonStop Server users to store a virtually unlimited number of XML documents so that they can be retrieved easily and efficiently using SQL-like syntax. Documents may be retrieved by various criteria including unique document id, timestamp, or user-defined indexes on document contents. Documents are stored in their original format so that they may be retrieved exactly in the same format that they were received. XML Vault takes care of creating, maintaining, and utilizing the necessary indexes, thus facilitating retrieval.

In this session, we will explore how this technology can help customers meet critical auditing requirements in both medical and financial applications.

Mission Critical Support Specialist

Roland Lemoine, HP
Audience Level: Introductory

This presentation is a comprehensive review of the connectivity available for NonStop SQL/MX and Neoview SQL. From Linux to Ado.net, from Java to Perl and using Development environments such as Eclipse, we’ll explore how the ODBC and JDBC drivers allow integrating seamlessly your NonStop or Neoview database in an open but complex landscape. The presentation also visits how to include MP tables using SQL/MX into the picture.
